Are tensions getting worse?

As someone who has studied anthropology over the course of human history, it is very difficult to tell. Is our human environment on this planet worse than before? From an evidence basis, I'm unclear. I am clear that for me - internally and in relationship with others and our planet - it feels worse and uncomfortable.
I help others work through the tensions of today's pull and push. We CAN hold two important and opposing ideas together long enough to learn from the tension. It does feel uncomfortable. It is easier to pick one side. But we loose the nuance and opportunity to cross a new threshold in our learning.
This idea of holding tension has arisen in my life as a mom, partner, leader in business, and simply walking with nature. It is all around me now that I can see and feel it. I know I live in the world of high commercialization and it has benefited me. I also know that this system is not sustainable. This is a tension I feel each day.
So I hold it. Listen to understand and be curious about it. I talk with others about it. I wander through the trees and am curious about what I can learn.
Ironically, as I hold the tension, it holds me less. I feel calmer as I listen.
More tension talk soon.
